Default inserting fields

OK, so I've defined a SEQ field and its switches just the way I want. I'd like to use it in various paces through the document: is copy/paste the only way to do this? I can't find a way to say "insert the field with label foobar"

Thanks in advance!

Select an "example" field, including any leading or trailing text, and then create a Quick Part (Building Block), which you can then insert whenever you want this particular content.

In a way, yes, that's exactly what the Building Blocks feature is. Building Block entries can store anything that can be copied and pasted between Word documents (text, fields, text boxes, tables, including formatting). Large or small "chunks" of data can be reused easily. And, of course, unlike data you copy and paste, entries remain intact even if you restart Windows.

Ah, persistent clipboard! that's worth knowing about, and something I wasn't aware of. Named variables would be a nice-to-have, though <g>

Yes, sort of... :-) Building Blocks / Quick Parts / AutoText is a very useful feature.

For what it's worth, variables do exist in Word (though they wouldn't be helpful for the topic discussed in this thread). You can make use of SET fields (look them up in Office online help) or you can use document variables in VBA.
