Howdy!

So I have a template that we use for return correspondence. There are several canned answers, more than one of which can apply. I have put in check boxes to indicate the necessary answers, but I also have an Other field that is used in most letters with special instructions. While I can make the boxes one click by restricting editing, that obviously will not work here. I seem to recall there is a way to make them one click while retaining the ability to change the rest of the document, but I cannot find it for the life of me.

I really appreciate the help!

Hi sephiroth,

Your 'Other' field could be an ordinary text formfield. the alternative is to insert a Section break between it and the checkbox formfields, and leave the Section containing the 'Other' field unprotected when you apply the forms protection.

That is not a bad idea, but I really want some more flexibility than a form allows me. If the instructions are long enough I often delete some of the selectable items to make more room. I had though there was a way to build a macro or something for the boxes so they would operate independently without creating a form. Am I wrong about this?

Thanks!

Hi sephiroth,

Unless you use formfield checkboxes, there'll be no way to activate the checkboxes unless you apply protection.

Since you're using Word 2010, though, you could consider using checkbox content controls if your users all have Word 2007 or later. Checkbox content controls don't require forms protection to work.
