Yes, I did ensure there's a space character after each footnote reference in the document body. |

Well, the code as written works just fine provided:
• the footnote references are followed by a space; • the footnotes each consist of a single paragraph; and • the footnotes to be converted are selected.

--Does it matter whether the space after each footnote reference is formatted as superscript or not?
--Also, just doublechecking: KimJongUndo above suggested that the superscript in the footnote itself needs a space after it, but is it correct that it's just the footnote reference in main text that needs a space? |

Both should have the space.

Macropod, I have the following question (recommendation).
Imagine, we have a doc document from a book where every chapter has its own numbering, starting from 1,2...etc. And all the numbers in the text body are recognized as a superscript number but not as a footnote anchor. And, we have the corresponding number of footnotes, numbered from 1,2,..etc. - for each chapter of the book. In this case, we will have a separate numbering for each chapter, starting from 1,2,... - as many times as the numbers of the chapters in the scanned book are... So, we will have your macro, select the footnotes for the first chapter and we can apply it but then the macro will recognize all the corresponding superscript indexes in the document, having the same numbers as the selected footnotes' ones and the document will look as a mess because one selected footnote will be linked to all superscript indexes in the document with the corresponding to the selected footnote number. My question is: Can you fix your code in such a way that it can be applied to sections in the doc file (and not to the whole file) and then separate numbering and linking the footnotes, starting from 1,2, ...etc. can be applied for every chapter (section) ? Suppose the user has manually divided his doc file into as many sections as the number of the chapters is. And then your code fulfills its procedure for each section (chapter) separately ? |

The way you have phrased your question makes me wonder if you have heard of endnotes. This is essentially what you are asking about. When footnotes are postponed until later in document, they are called Endnotes. It is easy to convert between footnotes and endnotes. Once the footnotes are in place, you can convert all of them to Endnotes and specify that the endnotes restart at each section break. To manage conversion between footnotes and endnotes - Click on the dialog launcher in the bottom right corner of the References Ribbon >Footnotes Group.

So, once ENDNOTES are in place - i.e. at the end of the document - and numbered from 1 to whatever - I was asking how they can be converted to footnotes, numbered from 1 to whatever for each section. I do not think the Conversion Tool can do this. Am I wrong? |

What do you want to do with the endnotes that can't be done with this dialog?

Thanks again, both...It's highly illustrative, Guessed ! Never tried it, applied to endnotes corresponding to sections ...
