Default Can't send a macro file to another computer

I have a Word 2010 document file with an associated macro.

The macro runs ok on my machine.

But, when I e-mail the document file to a colleague, he see the document file, but they don't get the macro (even when I send the Normal.dotm macro file).

I've tried all the reasonable file Save As formats : docx, docm, dotx, dotm without success.

Anyone have any ideas ?

Thanks

Hi norwood,

If the document recipient is not receiving the macro, that indicates that the macro isn't in the document, but in its template. Accordingly, you'd need to copy the macro to the document before saving & sending. The save format would also have to be .doc or .docm, as .docx files cannot contain macros. Alternatively, you could send the template as well - but then the recipient would have to save the template to the templates folder on their system as well and, if it's Word's Normal template, that could wipe out any customisations/macros the recipient already has ...

Ideally, if the macro is for use in this document only it is in the document. If it is for use on similar documents, it is in the document template. If it for use only on your computer and for many different kinds of documents it might be in your normal template. I would definitely store it in a different Global Template though if I wanted to share this common macro.

I would have to both trust and like someone a whole lot before I would substitute a normal template that person sent me for the one already on my computer. Doing so would disrupt my regular work. There are lots better places to store macros.

I would strongly suggest you take a look at Distributing macros to other users for ideas before you get someone mad at you.

Another thing to consider is the macro security settings of the recipient. Some (a few) installations do not allow macros, period. They do this without notifying the user that a macro is being blocked, they just ignore the macros.
