Table with check boxes showing up blank

I have been having issues lately with Word 2013. Sometimes I will have pics show up blank (even with the advanced option to show images checked). Usually everything prints fine but it would be nice to know what I was typing about in a description.

Now I am updating an office transmittal and all of the check boxes are showing up blank. I recently updated Word and was wondering if this is a bug.

I attached a screen grab.

Any help would be great.
