Word2010 check boxes and plain text content control boxes in same table

Word 2010.
I have a table in which I require one column to have a check box and another to have a check box in one column and a plain text content control, but cannot get the check box to work when I put restrictions on.
Also how do I change the check box to have a 'tick' instead of a Cross
