Default Edit embedded Visio object in Word

I have a Visio 2010 drawing.
I want to copy the drawing to Word or Powerpoint.

But I want to be able to edit the drawing in Word or Powerpoint on a computer that does not have Visio installed

How do I do this?

Thanks

This is something that I would never attempt but, since you asked:

Copy the graphics and paste into Word (it will only paste into PowerPoint as a group that you cannot explode...at least, in my brief experiment). Once copied into Word, double-click on the graphics (they should expand into a smaller window) and edit away. Be mindful that this process will be very tedious and you may not get the results that you desire. Afterall, a word processing program is not designed for graphic editing.

Well, I do not know your skill level but, I was able to do it. However, since a word processing program is not designed for graphic editing, it really does not surprise me that you are having such problems.

I am fairly competent!
Perhaps you can be so kind as to explain how you did it?
As soon as I double click on the Visio item in the Word doc I get the error:
Quote:
the server application source file or item cannot be found. Make sure the application is properly installed, and that it has not been deleted, moved, renamed or blocked by policy"
Thanks

Sorry...did not mean for that comment to be critical. That error message seems to imply a "network issue". However, I am also working on a network. I just used one of my own Visio files, copied and pasted into Word. When I double-clicked on the pasted graphic, it took me to a new (smaller) window with the graphic. I modified the graphic somewhat just to make sure it could be editted, then saved the file. It was as simple as that. So, if you are not getting those results, I would not know where to go from there.

Hope this helps...

This happens on my PC which has both Word and Visio installed.
However, the PC that the user (who wants to edit the Word doc) only has Word installed and is not on a network.
It does not have Visio installed on it

Thanks

There, I would assume, lies the problem. Because when it is imported (copied) into Word, and double-clicked, it is STILL a VISIO file. If Visio is not installed, he/she would not be able to edit at all.

Well, sorry it took this "trial and error" process to finally understand it all and it really amplifies my initial response that "a word processing program is not designed for graphic editing".

In Office, any attempt to open an embedded file for which the relevant application is not available will cause a 'Server not found' message.

Is this the result of cut and paste?

Thank you.

That topic has already been discussed. Regardless, whether one pastes the object or inserts it via Insert|Object, the result will be the same - if the parent application is not installed on the computer subsequently used to view the object, it cannot be opened for editing.
