Default Fixed Duration Task - Resource Issue

I have a 274 working day fixed duration task that currently has 5 personnel assigned to it. The personnel work various times (and days) on the task. No one is assigned 100%.

The task started on 08/31/16 and finishes on 09/29/17.

I have a 6th person who will need to work 2 hrs per week over the next 12 weeks. When I add the 2 hours to resource usage for the week I receive the message "Resource assigned outside the original dates for task ..." and it extends the finish date. Any thoughts why this would occur?

Thanks.
