Default Project forcing start and finish dates to be the same day

I'm not sure what's going on with Project, but here's what's happening (hoping you guys can help me)

When I add a task, and then try to add the start and finish dates, Project keeps setting my dates to the same day...with a duration of 1 day. For example, I want to enter the following and have project calculate the duration:

Task Duration Start Finish
Test A (calculated) 9/1/2016 9/5/2016

But what happens is, I enter the start date, then the finish date, and Project sets them both to the same date with a duration of 1 Day.

Do I have a global setting wrong or something?
