Generic resource????
Hi,
I have a case where a task could be done by either of 3 person of my team of 12 persons I can't assign the 3 of them at 100% to the task because it would block 3 full time ressource for that period when only one is needed. I cannot assignt the 3 of them at 33% because it would turn out later that one is under assigned and 2 others are over assigned, once I assign the one person I choose. I think I saw somewhere that the server version allows to define generic resource that later turns into an actual resource being assigned. But I have the standalone version. Is there a way to mimic that feature in this version? Thanks! |

You can create "generic" resources (by title for example) and then replace that resource with a named resource at another time. You need to remember to do the replacement with the named resource.
Is there a reason why you are not just assigning the named resource and then reviewing availability as you get closer to the task? I would pick one of the three and assign them at 100%. As you get closer to the task date - replace that resource as needed. |

In fact, I decided to do just that. I assign one of the three at 100% to avoid reducing capacity by three times. Then, as I will go, I will reassign if need to.
Thanks for the brainstorm |
