Hello,
Just trying to get my head round calendars. My first task is of 4 weeks length. With the default project calendar applied ie 40 Hrs a week. So to check I know how to alter a calendar. I change the duration to 120h and the task duration changes to 3 weeks (monday to fri X3). Then I create a short week calandar (short week) of a 5 hour day/25 h week. And change the applied calendar to "short week". Save the project. And reload. I still have a 120h 3-week task. Have I overlooked something? TIA |

Do you have resources assigned to the task? If you have resources assigned, it is the resource calendar in "charge" on a task -- unless when you assign the task calendar you select the option "Scheduling ignores resource calendars."

Hi PMNewbie,
If you don't have resources assigned then either the Project Calendar (set in Project Information) or a task calendar is "ruling" the schedule. So, a couple of questions: Where/how did you change the calendar? Did you create a new calendar or modify the "Standard" calendar. I'm guessing you applied a task calendar? What version of Project are you using? You are working with Automatically scheduled tasks? Changing the calendar should not change the duration of 120 hours -- but it definitely will change the end date. I hope this helps. |

If you press F9, does the finish date change?

Hello Julie,
F9 did not help. But I created a new Calendar (again) with the required working hours. And it now works just fine. I suspect that I had done something wrong when creating the calendar teh first time. Thanks for your help. Appreciated ;-) And I will remember F9, which google tells me, forces recalculation! |

You're welcome. It sounds like things may have been off in the other calendar. I'm glad you have it sorted and thanks for the feedback.
