Default Text box turns grey

I have a "standard" presentation that I need to work on in 2003.

When I click into a text box all the text in the box is highlighted with a grey background. This doesn't happen in any new presentations I create - only in this one.

I can even copy the text box to another presentation and then the grey highlighting doesn't happen.

The issue with the highlighting is that it makes most of the text impossible to read.

Does anyone know what is causing this and can I turn it off or at least change the colour?
