Default Dynamic Excel linking in text, no formatting

Hi,

I have 2 questions about dynamic linking to Excel. I've already used google to figure out how to get it to work, but I'm having some formatting trouble.

First question, I'm trying to create a slide that has a sentence in it like "Project 1 will cost $100 in 2017". I want to link the amount of 100 to an excel sheet. I'm able to do that by making a text box with "Project 1 will cost in 2017" and then creating a separate linked box over top of that. That works, but it's not dynamic as far as spacing goes if the number drastically changes. Is there another way to do that?

Second question, I'm pulling in a single number from a single cell. In Excel, that number has formatted lines above and below it because it's a total. In PowerPoint, I don't want it to show those lines. Is there a way to have a link to Excel without copying the formatting?

Thanks!!
