There are a couple of other ways this can occur too.
Check the last slide that appears. In the Transitions Tab is advance slide on mouse click unchecked. This will stop any advance All of the slides after 16 could be set to advance auto zero seconds - this would take you direct to the end so probably not what you are seeing.
