Thank you for your reply.
I work with powerpoint everyday, and I am used to working with all kinds of shapes and text boxes. What I am describing is part of a known bug (or problem anyway) in PP2007, that has been solved by changing the language settings as I described, and as described in the link I provided in the question. Unfortunately this, as mentioned, doesn't solve my issue completely.
The problem I am dealing with now is currently occuring in a completely rectangular text box, an several places there is a line break in the middle of a line. Even if I copy the text and paste it as unicode in the same or in a new textbox the same problem occurs. I am quite sure that what is the case here is a PP bug, which is why I hoped that anyone had found some strange or clever way to fix it - because I have tried every trick I ever learned
