The linked excel chart method is PowerPoint is not well thought out!
I would try: Make sure the Excel file is saved. Copy the chart and in PPT choose Paste Special (Link as Excel chart) You should now have a rightc click option to update and maybe the auto update will also work. If you use code post the code you have and I will see if it can be fixed. usually preople use code which does not correctly identify the chart object.
