Default Colour mismatch inserting pictures into Powerpoint 2010

When I insert a jpg file into Powerpoint 2010 the image looks washed out. It does not matter what color space has been used to prepare the images. However if I open a Powerpoint 2000 ppt file in Powerpoint 2010 using the same images the colours are fine. I cannot find any options in Powerpoint 2010 to change the default color profile etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
