i created a rule where i take certain individuals e-mail and as soon as they get to my inbox i move the mail to another folder in outlook. The problem im having is that i no longer get the message envelope in outlook 2010 on the task bar saying that i have unread mail. I'm i missing something what particular part of the rule do i need to modify to add the envelope to the bottom task bar so that i know that i have unread mail eventhough its not in my inbox per se.
Thanks in advance to any suggestions anyone can offer. ![]() |

You can't turn on the message envelope via rule, but you could have it pop up a message on the screen; similar to a reminder. Or have it show the New Item Alert window.

Well, yes, I suppose that's true.
Best solution for that is to create a Search Folder that aggregates your sub-folders. Then you only have to look at the search folder to see all the messages that came into those sub-folders. |

i guess i was just expecting the taskbar envelope on the bottom of your monitor to show the envelope as it would when a new e-mail comes into the inbox.
But i guess there are some limitations to rules. Do you think their might be a way to acomplish this via vba? |

I'm not much of a VBA guy so I don't know.
Not showing the envelope when a rule has moved the message is by design. Generally I think the sentiment is that messages moved to sub-folders aren't as important as messages in the Inbox and are often the product of high-traffic listservs. If they activated the envelope every time a message came in that was moved to folders, for some of us, the envelope would never go off. I get mail from some list or another every minute or three. I don't use the envelope anyhow - but it would be useless to me if it fired every time I got a message that was moved. |
