Hello,
First time here so I hope I am posting in the correct area. Here is my problem. At one point in my office, I was able to work in Outlook (Office 2003 running XP Pro) from 2 separate computers and being able to see incoming emails on both and when I would send an email, I could see that on both computers as well. We had a new tech support person do some work on my 2 pc's and now, I can't check and work with Outlook like I use to. If I have an incoming email on one computer and read it, it will not show up on the other computer, same when sending an email. I want to work from home on one of my pc's but if I ant have total access to Outlook as before on both, I will not be able to work successfully. Is there a quick fix to this issue? My work computers on on our companies servers if that helps. I do not mind if I can't take one pc home, but I would still like to be able to work on both accessing Outlook on either. So, just to be clear, you have an Exchange Server at work, yes? That's where your mailbox is?
Is it possible this new tech changed Outlook so that it uses POP3 or IMAP to retrieve your e-mail rather than the native Exchange service? |

Good point, he did change it to a POP3 server. I did however notice after going through a few options that in the advanced section under email tools, I checked a box to keep email on server for 10 days. Will this help? I have a similar problem with two home PCs; I will be watching to see if my issue is resolved here, or if it is something entirely different. If that's the case, I hope someone will jump in and enlighten me. This is very aggravating because as a student, I study in my home office and also with my laptop in bed. My bedroom 'desk' is similar to what is used to serve meals to patients in hospital beds.
I have a Desktop with DSL and the router, and my laptop (wireless) networked. The laptap runs Vista and the desktop has just been upgraded to Win7 (I don't think that matters, but I've included for info). I see you mentioned Exchange; both of my PCs are setup using POP3. Is that why if I open mail on one, I don’t receive it on the other? If so, I will follow this thread for the solution. Thanks. Teakie |

POP3 just downloads a copy of what's on the server and does not maintain a central profile (POP = post office protocol). Your admin should change your account to IMAP as this maintains a master profile of all incoming and outgoing messages regardless of which client computer sent or received. then you won't have any discrepancies.

Going through all of my Outlook addresses that are with my ISP, and changing over from POP3 to IMAP would be a snap. However, when I have to change my College, Gmail, etc., and print out the instructions and re-enter each one again... Unless...Will Outlook7 auto-detect IMAP as easy as it did POP3?
