Has anyone noticed a severe slow down in Outlook 2007 when switching folders after yesterdays patches? Both my machines were fine until after last night's reboot. Switching folders causes a 20 second pause and a "Not Responding" before it switches.

Uninstall KB2412171. Works like a charm

Ditto for me. Incredably slow. However, before uninstalling the referenced patch, does MS have plans to remedy this problem in the very near future?

I seriously doubt they will even admit that it's a problem, let alone remedy it in a timely manner. The update also disables the archive feature which might be important to you.

Same problem for me. I rebooted after updates and noticed very slow switching between folders in Outlook.

Uninstalling KB2412171 worked for me.

Ironically, the patch notes state: "...also this update contains stability and performance improvements." ha!

I have burned severl hours today on this! What is odd, I have three machines in my office, two identical and the third a laptop. Only one of the PC's experienced this. Any suggestions out there, this novice would really appreicate it!

Until Microsoft resolves this just use Windows Update and remove the KB2412171 update from all machines. Microsoft will eventually fix it. Also change your settings on Windows Update to manual so no updates are automatically downloaded before this is resolved.

I too just spent a few hours on this. I wish I first thought to check if anyone else was having the problem. I thought perhaps I should Archive my Outlook, but then discovered I could not find it!

I noticed several of you mentioned an uninstall. Could someone provide more instructions for how to do this?

Also, any news on a patch to fix the patch?

Open Windows Update from the Control Panel

Select "Installed Updates" from the menu on the left

Select Update #KB2412171 Update for Outlook 2007 from the list

Right click on the update and select Uninstall

Your machine will do the rest.

When it wraps up everything should be back to normal. Microsoft will eventually come out with a new patch replacing the old one.

Just to add that I also am experiencing the same issue after last night's update. I am reassured that others are having the same joy. I do have a copy of Office 2010 which I have not gotten around to installing. I may try that and see if it doesn't solve the problem prior to walking back the update. I will advise if that solves the problem..

This -terrible- patch for Outlook 2007 is not only slowing down the display of folder views significantly but it additionally corrupts Secure Password Authentication ( which is even worse). So you cannot use it anymore. I first thought my provider had changed something, but it was this patch that hampered SPA with my e-mail. After removing the patch Secure Password Authentication works fine again. Bad move by Microsoft!

I uninstalled the following outlook update: KB2412171. Outlook worked fine.

Then I came in this morning and the damn thing updated again and Outlook was slow as hell again!

Uninstalled a second time, and back to normal.

How can I block this update from installing again? Also, why isn't this update slowing down my other computers?

I uninstalled the KB update as noted in this thread and it fixed my problem with slows folder switching. I DID NOT have to reboot to notice the performance boost.

I wasn't saying that I had to reboot, I am saying that Microsoft Updates happened again and the problem update was installed a second time.

My question is how do I keep this update from occuring again?
