I uninstalled the KB update as noted in this thread and it fixed my problem with slows folder switching. I DID NOT have to reboot to notice the performance boost.

I wasn't saying that I had to reboot, I am saying that Microsoft Updates happened again and the problem update was installed a second time.

My question is how do I keep this update from occuring again?

Go to Windows Update from the Control Panel

Select Change Settings from the menu on the left

Select the option "Check For Updates But let Me Choose Whether To Download And Install Them"

Select OK

You're finished

My post was in response to an earlier post instructions to uninstall, reboot, and be fine. I was suggesting that you may not need to reboot. I hadn't seen your post when I posted. However, there are options with some updates to instruct not to look at or request the update again. You would have to catch it in the detailed list and reject it. I'm not sure exactly what instructions to give you as I'd have to do it again myself.

Default Time Waster!

I too experienced the same problem yesterday. The thing that frustrates me the most, is that when you are in a routine with your work and something like this happens, it not only disrupts your work, but in my case it took 4 hours yesterday and 2 hours this morning (in Australia) before I found SWASSOCIATES solution. I followed swassociates advice and I am now back to normal. Thank you so very much! I wonder if MS fully realises the consequences of massive loss in time, productivity and the sheer frustration this causes? Wonder how many people, around the World, will spend their whole weekend trying to fix the problem.
