With POP3 connections, the most common cause for error is how the account is configured.

If the incoming and outgoing servers are correct, confirm GoDaddy require SMTP authentication ( toggling this setting from On to Off)

Secondary, go to Tools > Accounts >, select your account > More Settings > Advanced.

If you SSL selected for Use this type of encryption connection, select Auto....
