Default Faulty account added, and can't be removed.

Hello all! I was hoping someone here might be able to help me out with an annoying problem I've stumbled into.

This morning, I installed the beta for Microsoft Outlook 2010. I set up an email account -- and the test email went through, everything seemed fine.

Yet now, when I try to launch the application, it greets me with the following error:

Quote:
The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action.
Now, there's nothing that I'm aware of blocking Outlook. I only use Windows 7 Home Premium's built-in firewall, under which Microsoft Office Outlook is set to "Allow". And, as I said, it had no problem sending an email through the IMAP connection I set up (gmail). Is it possible I need to forward a port in my router for Outlook to function properly?

This would be no big deal -- I can easily set up that account again -- but after that error, it asks me to recheck my settings, and if I press "Cancel", it doesn't send me back into the application. It says:

Quote:
Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. The set of folders cannot be opened. The file C:\Users\frogsy\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\fr ogsy@myemail.net.ost is not an Outlook data file.
I have deleted the specified file, but it is regenerated each time I launch Outlook.

I searched online for a solution, but came up empty. Has anyone seen this before? If someone could help me out, it'd be really appreciated.

Okay, so after a few hours of messing about, I made some progress. I can get Excel to open now, but that first error constantly pops up -- there's a faulty Microsoft Exchange account added, and I can't work out how to remove it.

Attempting to remove the account from the E-mail tab of Account Settings gets me the error:

Quote:
You cannot delete this Outlook data file. Configuration information in the file is being copied to your new default data file. You can delete the file after the information is copied.
It persists even after 6+ hours of waiting, and multiple reboots. How can I unlock and remove this account?

Question

hi Frogsy, i have the same exact problem...but i can't get past that warning.
Whether i click OK or CANCEL i get the same result: that error message telling me my .ost file is not valid & then it shuts down.

Did you find a solution to this?
I even tried a "fix it for me" thing on the Microsoft site to uninstall Office fully but it didn't work.

thx for any info or help!!
