Trying to send too many emails

Windows 10
Outlook 2016
Using POP setup (No Exchange or IMAP)

Hello.

I see no emails stuck in my outbox, but when I try to send an email, the status bar shows "sending 1 of 72".
Needless to say, Outlook is very slow. Any help would be very much appreciated.
