Outlook search not finding recent mail; rebuild ix did nothing

Outlook is not finding any mail that I received or sent in the last year. I can see the items in the inbox & sent folders, but it only finds mail older than about a year. Reindexing did nothing (close outlook, control panel, indexing options, advanced, rebuild, reopen outlook). Please let me know if you have any ideas about how I might fix this.
