I have Outlook 2007 on my desktop screen to open on Contacts. Then, if necessary, I can switch to Calendar. Is it possible to install two versions of the same Outlook on the same desktop screen, one opening on Contacts, the other on Calendar?
Many thanks. |

No that is not possible. There can only be one version of Outlook. You can however have two instances of the SAME Outlook open. Create two shortcuts each with the appropriate switch i.e.
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12\Outlook.exe" /select outlook:calendar "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12\Outlook.exe" /select outlook:contacts

Thanks so much. It didn't work (as explained below), but hardly a big problem. Just a slight inconvenience.
a.I had a shortcut of Outlook on the Desktop to open on "Contacts". So I made a shortcut of that. b.Then went into Tools, Options, Other, Advanced Options and made Startup into "Calendar" on the second shortcut. c. The second shortcut opened on "Calendar"--but so did the first shortcut. d. So I looked at properties, and saw that that the Target was "Office Enterprises 2007", which I couldn't find anywhere on the computer (except the desktop shortcuts). Nor could I paste in the property lines which you gave me. e. In fact, for some reason, I can't seem to find Microsoft Office or Microsoft Outlook Office 2007 anywhere on the computer except the Desktop shortcut of Word and Outlook. Pretty strange, I realize. f. So, hopefully there may be another solution. But if not, I hardly worry, since it's such a tiny problem. But if something occurs. I'd love to hear from you, at your leisure. Again, many thanks. |

You cannot make a shortcut to a shortcut. Right click the desktop and make a NEW shortcut for each of the paths I posted. If the address is not appropriate to your PC, you will get an error message when you click Next.
Obviously Outlook (and the rest of the installed parts of Office) are present on your PC or you wouldn't be able to use them. The paths quoted are correct for the default settings for Office 2007 on Windows 64 bit versions. (Windows 32 bit versions will not have the " (x64)" parts of the addresses.) Name one shortcut 'Contacts', the other 'Calendar' as appropriate.

Oh me of little faith!! Yes, I followed your directions to the letter, and basically they worked. One calendar, one contacts, both on the desk. I have a slight problem in that the contacts and calendar need some tweaking to come out the way I need them, but I can take care of that at my leisure.
Thanks for the good advice, and mea culpa for thinking I could take shortcuts from you excellent directions. |
