Outlook 2013 - Sent messages appear as draft after being moved
Hello members!
Here is the description of the issue I am facing to. Symptoms: When I send a message, the message is sent (yep really, my recipient get it), and then I found it as a draft message moved to the correct folder. Since it is a draft, I cannot reply or transfer it. Complementary information about my configuration: Outlook 2013. Update 15.0.4737.1003. I made an office update the 24/7. I have rules that move my messages into the appropriate folders, not letting them into the sent box. Other stuff: This behavior seems to have appeared since the last office update. Any idea is welcome, it is really annoying. |

I have found an existing thread on the microsoft web site (answers.microsoft.com) that seems to explain the same issue.
There is a bug report since 2013. On the 12/7/15, there is someone who exhort Microsoft engineers to analyze the thread explanation and to try to reproduce the issue before answering in the thread . It is amazing ! Does anybody has :

I continue to inform you about the advancement of this issue, hoping some angel can help in solving this issue of Outlook 2013 (now I am convinced it is a real "bug").
The issue is related to the folder (I am not sure of the name in english) in which the rule copy the message. When copying the sent message in the sent folder of : - the personal folder, it does not work (the issue: draft message). - the mailbox folder, it works (not draft message). Complementary information about my configuration: The principle of my rules that reveals this issue is the following. The option "Save a copy of the sent message in the sent folder" is inactive. - Rule "Send Customer1" : Move a copy in Archive/Customer1 folder of personal folder, and stop processing rules. - ... - Rule "Send CustomerN" : Move a copy in Archive/CustomerN folder of personal folder, and stop processing rules. - Rule "Send all ofhers" : Move a copy in Sent folder of personal folder, and stop processing rules. - Rule "Receive Customer1" : Move the message in Archive/Customer1 folder of personal folder, and stop processing rules. - ... - Rule "Receive CustomerN" : Move the message in Archive/CustomerN folder of personal folder, and stop processing rules. |

Still no contributor
For information, I do not find any fix of Outlook. I just set the unstatisfying workaround : disable all rules "Send XXX" => no more sent messages saved as draft. |

Seems to me it's something to do with which order Outlook performs the actions. For example if the rule is applied before the message is flagged as sent, the rule with have no choice but to save as a draft instead. Whereas if it's sent then processed by the rule, it will save as sent.
This is just a guess though, just hope someone else will have a more definitive answer. |

I agree.
It is like Outlook processes the rules before the sent flag is set on the message sent. The problem is that this is a part internal to the Microsoft software. I think it has nothing to do with configurable stuff, is it ? |

What process did you go through to set up rules for your outgoing emails?

I use only built-in function of Outlook.
There is no plug-in to manage rules. So it consists in (in french sorry):

Can I ask if adding back the "this computer only" option solves the problem?
Also, is this issue only occurring for your outbound rules? I assume you also have rules set up for inbound traffic too? |

Also how did you remove the "client-side only" designation from the rule? It was my understanding that this wasn't possible on Outlook 2013 if the rule possessed one of many traits, such as specifying a certain CUSTOM folder (which only exists on your computer) to transfer the message to.

I set this option on two sent rules: - one rule that move the message into the personal folder, it does not work (the issue: draft message). - a second rule that move the message into the mailbox folder, it works (not draft message). Quote:

So that confirms it. On the rules which are set up to be client-side only, the rule is applied BEFORE the message is sent, resulting in a draft being saved, whereas the server-side rules process correctly.
The only problem, is that I tried to replicate this issue, and had no problem. I set up a client-side rule by going to Rules (in the ribbon) > Manage Rules & Alerts > New rule and set it up so that emails to my gmail account would be saved to (first) drafts, then a custom folder I created for this purpose. They seemed to save correctly with no [draft] tag. When you say "personal folder" it is still attached to the profile correct? As in it's a sub folder underneath your inbox for the same profile? |

When I said "personal folders" I meant the local box named "Dossier personnels".
I have also another box for my email account emmanuel.name @ company.com. The box "personal folders" is attached to the file : C:\Users\emmanuel\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\ Outlook.pst The box for my email account is attached to the file : C:\Users\emmanuel\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\ emmanuel.name @company.com.ost Also, I have the following annoying message when I start Outlook2013. |

Emmanuel,
Right, so your personal folder is never actually synced with the server? Rather it's a standalone date file used for private emails? The secondary issue is an easy one. When you have (or have had) multiple profiles you have the option to choose profile prompts, or to choose a specific profile to open into every time. Take a look at the following article for more details. https://support.office.com/en-ca/art...9-ef3fdddaf43d |
