Hi EvilRed,
It's also possible your profile is corrupted, or your mailbox is so large that it's causing issues. What kind of account do you use? POP/IMAP? You can find out by navigating to Control Panel > Mail > Email accounts and checking what information it has under "Type." Get back to me and ill do my best to assist you.
