Default Outlook not receiving messages in non-selected account

I'm running Outlook 2013 and have a problem. I've recently added a 2nd account to Outlook (both my main account and the new account are IMAP).

If I open the 2nd account and click on the inbox, it receives email as expected. However, that's the only time it receives email; when my main account is selected, the 2nd account never receives email.

This is a problem because I do almost all of my work in my main account, but I do need to know when emails arrive in my 2nd account and rarely think to click on its inbox.

Can you suggest a solution?

Thanks!
