Can i make a rule to send all emails that have one specific letter in a sender's name to a box other than the inbox?

Yes - Use the new rule options to apply rules on messages you receive with specific words in the sender's address. For this purpose a letter is a 'word'.
As only specific characters are allowable in an e-mail address, it is likely to produce some false positives when selecting messages with only one chosen letter in the address.

thanks for the help … much appreciated.
I still cannot figure out how to specify just a single letter when I step thru the following: ‘manage rules and alerts’ from ‘rules’ drop-down list. ‘new rule’ in the ‘E-mail rules’ tab displays the rules wizard. step 1 in ‘move messages from someone to a folder’. step 2 ‘apply this rule after the message arrives from people or public group’. I can then apparently pick only from my address book [i.e.] I cannot figure out how to specify just the letter ‘z’ for instance? |

You went wrong at Step 1. Create a new rule to apply to messages you receive - see http://www.calstatela.edu/sites/defa...k2013rules.pdf and at item 7, select Specific Words in the Senders address.
