I managed to get hold of a telephone number for microsoft. I gave them a ring, they answered really quickly, asked me a couple of questions & gave me a new product key.

The person stayed on the phone with me while I installed Office 2003.

A little while later, I got an unexpected follow up call, asking me if everything was ok with it, he went through testing it with me to make sure it was working ok.

Brilliant service.

Wow, that's good to hear. It sounds like Microsoft's support is improving. I hope it has done so across the board.
