Question Problem with some hyperlinks in Excel & Word

When I add hyperlinks in Excel or Word 2016, some of them cause a security warning dialog box to pop up - Certificate error The application experienced an internal error loading the SSL libraries - see pics below.

Does anyone know how to fix the problem?

NB. It doesn't happen with all websites - for instance Google works fine, but Three | Phones, Broadband & SIM Only deals doesn't.

Sometimes, if I close the above dialog box, I get another one like this:

Any help appreciated.

Btw, I'm using Office Professional Plus 2016 Version 1611 (Build 7571.2109) - turning updates on or off makes no difference.
My OS is Windows 7 64-bit Service Pack 1.
Browser is Chrome Version 109.0.5414.120 (Official Build) (64-bit).

I googled the error but couldn't find anything that worked.
the application experienced an internal error loading the ssl libraries - Google Search

Forgot to say: the problem started only recently, i.e. the last 3 or 4 months.

8. Exit the registry editor.

Note that changes need a restart to take effect. That's 'Restart' not 'Shutdown'.

Hello wiganken,

I have exactly the same problem as T-Bird (the OP) - I posted it in a new thread here https://www.msofficeforums.com/offic...tml#post182364 but no-one has answered.

I've just tried the registry modification you suggested above (i.e. create new key '9.0') but it didn't work. Can you help please?

NB. I'm on Windows 7 SP1 64-bit with Office Professional Plus 2016 64-bit.

Question wigankey

Note to wiganken if he reads this thread: I tried the registry tweak you suggested (copy in post 3 above) and it made no difference. Here's the key that I added.

Can you think of anything else?

Thanks in advance.
