![]() You should check your Information Rights Management settings on the PC. See: https://support.office.com/en-US/Art...7-92a39b85e30c. If that's not the issue, how are you transferring the files?

I can find no IRM settings on the PC. On the PC (Office 2007) I get File\Prepare\Restrict Permissions\Unrestricted Access (checked; I didn't even know it was there) for both Word & Excel. If I click Manage Credentials I get an opportunity for a trial subscription to IRM. Still unfamiliar with most fine-tuning of Office 2016 (laptop) but can see nothing similar to the above Office 2007 settings. If I send a file from the PC to the laptop, I can then edit it on the laptop; if I use the laptop to fetch a file from the PC, it is read-only. (Using File Explorer in both cases.) Still confused.
