Help please,

Does anyone know why when using office in windows 8 (regardless of prorgramme), the cursor leaps around the screen randomly moving, selecting and overwriting text as it sees fit. I've heard that its just a quirk you have to live with but there must be a fix as its an incredibly annoying problem?

Also fyi - I am technical dullard so if this is simply a matter of 'click here' to turn off poltergeist mode, I apologise for wasting your time. I'd still like to know where in the menu it is though.
