Paul - I don't have 'Programs & Features' in XP - I assume you mean 'Add/remove'? Those M$ tools you link were the ones I mentioned that I used to remove all versions of Office before this last installation of 2010.

All I have showing are:
Office Converter Pack
Office File Validation add-in and
M$ Office Pro 2010

Of possible interest is that even after use of the M$ removal tools I still have Office 11.0 and 14.0 folders in the registry. I'm pretty sure at one point in the many attempts I had manually removed all references to Office from reg. Should there be an 11.0 folder after a 'clean' install of 2010?
