That may be so but, once you execute (finish) the merge, those fields won't be there in the outupt document - they will have been replaced by the records from your datasource. All you're doing now is previewing the merge. To execute (finish) the merge, you need to click on the 'Merge' (Word 97-2003) or 'Finish & Merge' (Word 2007+). Until you do that, you will never get beyond the preview stage.
