Office '03
If after there is data in the sheet's cells, is there a way to format all cells with a border around each? If I select more than one cell format puts the border around the selected group not each cell. Mark |

Hi Mark,
It all depends on which border option you choose. If you choose 'all borders', all of the selected cells get the border.

Then I'm really confused Paul.
Right click cell, click format, click the borders tab, then click the cell with a border on all 4 sides (top). There is no 'all borders' option? |

Hi Mark,
I don't have Office 2003 installed, so I can't see what formatting options you might get via right-clicking. However, using Excel 2000's formatting toolbar (which I doubt is any more functional than the 2003 version), I can use the borders dropdown to choose a format whose hover text is called 'all borders' - it looks like a square grid of four bordered cells.

Well I have 07 with the confounded ribbon so that's no use. I opened Excel in Connie's '03 and what you refer to is not present clicking on Format on the top horizontal Menu. That means you must be referring to some 'floating' toolbar specific to formatting? If so, how do you make the thing appear?

Hi Mark,
Your first post referred specifically to "Office '03", so my last reply focussed on what that version could do. With Office 2007, you can select the 'all borders' option from the borders button on the Font panel of the Home tab on the ruler or, after right-clicking, by choosing Format Cells|Border and choosing both 'outline' and 'inside'. I confused the issue with my computer ('07)--please disregard.
As for '03 (which in this regard is most likely similar to 2000) how do you initiate the formatting toolbar? |

Hi Mark
View|Toolbars, then check whichever toolbars you want displayed. They may start off floating, but you can dock them easily eanough. You can also customize the toolbars to add/remove buttons. the latter is especially usefull, since there is some button duplication.

One last point on the topic--
Now that I have rearranged my toolbars is there a way to force existing sheets, when they open, to take on this new toolbar selection? |

Hi Mark,
Simply adding the toolbar and exiting Excel should make the new toolbar setting stick.
