I know this isn't strictly an Excel application issue but I don't know where else to ask, and it sort of is.



Windows 11, Office 365

I really don't like the new tasbar icons that have appeared with the latest round of updates. They are anonymous colouted squares and nowhere as easy to navigate to "at a glance" as the old ones.

I thought I'd just change the icon - something I've done many times before - but it doesn't take effect. Indeed what has happened is bizzare:

* I change the icon in the usual way but the taskbar display doesn't change.

* If I go back to try again, the new icon shows in the change icon dialog as if it has inded been changed.

* If I right click on the taskbar icon for Excel I see the new icon below recently used files but not on the taskbar.

I've tried clearing the icon cache and the taskbar icon cache, restarting Eplorer and restarting Windows - all to no effect . . . the taskbar icon doesn't change although all the other signs point to it having changed !!

I'd appreciate any insights or ideas.

Which Icons are you referring to? I am running Win 11 and O365 and do not understand what your issue is. Can you post some pictures of what you are seeing and then if possible what you would like to see?

I have solved this for Excel, but I don't know how I did it !
Having taken all the actions I described I finally decided to unpin Excel from the taskbar. To my surprise the new Excel icon from MS disappeared leaving the one I was trying to substitute it with - as though there were two icons, one on top of the other.
Now I have twe same issue with Word but am having no success - I think I will post in the Word forum and see what assistance I can get
