![]() While working an a fairly large Excel 2000 file, call it myfile.xls, when I clicked File>Window I saw "myfile.xls:1" and "myfile.xls:2". Closing and opening Excel does not change that. There are still 2 files appearing when I click File>Window. How did I get 2 files and are they different? They don't appear to be.

I think they're numbered windows of the same workbook. Close one of them and those numbers should disappear.
Here, my file is called Data-13.xlsx, one window shows Data-13.xlsx - 1 the other shows Data-13.xlsx - 2 I'm guessing this is the equivalent of what you're seeing. (I'm on Office 365) 2025-06-15_000135.jpg |
