Hi, Excel 2013
I am following one methods to take a worksheet that exists in workbook 1 across to workbook 2 WHERE IT DOESNT EXIST. it refuses, so I try another method, again same refusal. Method 1 drag and drop with ctrl held down, get an insertion point and release. Method 2 right click the sheet and choose the destination workbook from a drop down list, choose the before or after existing sheet for the destination, click copy box, ok it. Both these methods fail, they declare unable to do so as 'it contains fewer rows and columns' ot says, it then goes on to say to do so use copy paste into the existing sheet ! THERE IS NO EXISTING SHEET, thats why I want to copy the sheet not whats within it ! I am not copying into a sheet, I am copying a sheet that only exists in workbook 1 over to workbook 2 so it shouldnt even be counting rows and columns at all, ! Help ! DBenz |

This generally happens when one workbook is in the .xlsx format, and the other is in .xls. I've had it happen after converting to the latest version, but I suspect if I took the time to close the program and re-open it it would work. My path of least resistance solution is if I can't move sheet X into workbook Y, I move all the sheets of Y into X, and that usually works.
Since you're in Excel 2013, it may be a different incompatibilty, but try that. Before .xlsx there were 65,536 maximum rows per worksheet. In the current version there are 1,048,576 rows. Thus the error message. If one of your sheets says it's in Compatibility Mode at the top of the title bar, that's a clue it's in a different format. |

Follow up: I can confirm that this just happened again when I converted an .xls workbook to .xlsx, and then tried to slide the sheet in, it still wouldn't go. However, closing and re-opening the converted workbook, it then worked fine. I guess it just needs that refresh.
