If u just want to check the number of hours a person works, u can use
e.g. A2-A1, then in the Format Cells, custom format to [h]:mm

Another method is to use the TIME function.
e.g. =TIME(17,30,0)-TIME(9,25,0). The disadvantage is that it has no cell reference
