Form controls in Excel 2011 for MAC

I have a Excel 2010 worksheet in which I've used Combo Box Form controls (not Active X). I have been told that when the worksheet is opened in Excel 2011 for MAC, the controls do not work properly. They disappear when user clicks on them. I was of the understanding that only Active X controls did not work in Excel 2011. Any suggestions to get form control to work in Excel 2011.
