Issues with Microsoft Word Form Fields
I have spent a great deal of time trying to figure out this issue and searching out on the web, what I am doing wrong, before finally joining this forum to ask my question-- so I apologize in advance if this is a simple thing, but I really need to figure this out-- so here goes.
I have created a form in Word, that has form fields. The fields are text with an unlimited amount of characters specified. The problem is that when you enter text into the locked field it only shows the first line of text-- UNLESS you unlock the form or kind of "dance around" in the field with back spacing etc. The fields themselves are inside of a table. Obviously I would like for users to be able to enter text in the form fields without having to unlock it to make sure they can see what they entered is correctly typed! I can't for the life of me figure out why this is happening. It doesn't happen in other places, so I am completely baffled by what I might have done to create this issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much! |

Hi hbforsyth,
With the table, is the: • 'wrap text' property for the cell in question checked? • 'exact height' property for the row in question UNchecked?

Yes to both. I basically had this form in a shorter format and it is working. Finally just copied the row into this new form and table and it is working. Still not sure what I did wrong.... but at least I finally got it to work. Thanks for your reply. Okay.... I thought it worked. But now it doesn't. Ughhh! So frustrating!!!!! My issue is not solved after all
Please, if others have suggestions, that would be wonderful...
What I have also noticed is that if you go into print preview, then it will display the text and then of course when you go back to the regular view the text typed in is there. The other way is if I type in a bunch of text and then sort of back space around here and there it will finally show up. Thanks Last edited by hbforsyth; 11-14-2011 at 03:03 PM. Hi hbforsyth,
If the problem concerns only the one table/cell, then the issue most likely relates to how that table/cell is formatted. Without seeing the affected part of the document, it's hard to be more specific.

I have attached the entire form. It is on page 14 that I am having the issue. For example in the field where it says Early Intervention Service-- if you enter "occupational therapy"-- you will only see "occupational" show up-- unless you click onto a field in another table on another page, click on print preview, or save the document.
Thank you for your help. |

Hi hbforsyth,
I can't replicate the problem - after applying forms protection, I'm able to enter 'unlimited' text into the Early Intervention Service field(s) and have the line(s) wrap.

How bizarre... I just saved the version I sent to this forum under a different name and I am not having the issue now either. Some days..... Thanks for checking. I think...my issue is solved, I guess. I really appreciate your time.

I downloaded the form and tried to replicate your error, even though I didn't really expect to know if I could answer your problem as Macropod was dealing with it anyway, I was interested in the problem, but I didn't get any issues, so I thought it might be something else like the version of windows (I'm sure I will be informed if not so - but that's how we all learn).
However, I would like to say I like the layout of your form, straight forward and easy to complete. Everything a good form should be so well done for that anyway. If you don't get many complaints from the "inputter" end then you know you have done a good job as we live in a complaining world. |

Thank you. I can't take all the credit. Most of the forms we use in my office come from the state somewhat workable and then we customize them to work well for our service area.
