I have office 2003, 2007, 2008 and 2010.
So any help at all regarding my current frown would be wonderful. I am TRYING to make a large amount of text be a field. So when the user rolls over the text they can read it, select it (goes away) and can then type in their own information. I have been successful in this aspect by just using Text Form Fields, but I've recently discovered that there is a character limit to this. I know what i'm trying to do is possible because there are letter templates within word that have a large amount dummy text that is directly selectable (highlights) then allows the user to start typing which erases the dummy text. I've tried to view the field codes in these templates but I can't find one linked to the dummy text for this behavior. thanks! |

Hi JustK,
If you create a formfield with a 'default text' content, you're limited to 255 characters. However, once protection is applied, you can add more text. So you have two options: • have up to 255 characters default text (which re-appears if the user deletes all text from the formfield), then add whatever extra 'default' text you need after applying forms protection; or • have no text set as the default (in which case the formfield becomes blank if the user deletes its content) and simply add your 'default' text you need after applying forms protection.

Hiya macropod!
Tx so much for the response. I am going to have to find a different way of displaying this text to the user, I can't cut the text and I can't create a new section just for this one line. Very good to know for future documents though. Thanks again! ![]() |
