Unable to open a docx from window explorer

Greetings:

For some reason when open a .docx from MSWord recent list it brings up the document fine. However open the a .docx via Window Explorer folder or via an email attachment result is a series of prompt that the "file could not be found...", "the directory name is not valid..." (see attached). After hitting ok on all of the prompt, word brings up a blank document. Have anyone run into this situation? If so, what seems to be the problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
