I'm having a problem with multilevel figure/equation/table numbering in Word. I want figures to be labeled by chapter number and by order (5.2, 5.3, 5.4 etc), but somehow I'm also getting 3 and 4 level numbers mixed in sporadically, such as 5.2, 5.3, 5.1.4.1, 5.1.5 etc. I've updated the document to no avail, please help! It's a 200 pg dissertation that's due ASAP. HELP! I've tried re-formating the numbering scheme and applying it globally, demoting individual figures (which doesn't work since they're all on one plane), and I'm thinking about offering up a chicken. |

How did you create the figure (equation etc.) numbers? Via the Caption dialog box? Or by other means? Please elaborate.
