Sometimes as I drag a tab in a Word document to a new location on the ruler, I need a finer adjustment than what is allowed. As I drag the tab, it doesn't move and then suddenly jumps to the next stop. Often this next stop is farther down the ruler than what I need. I know there must be a way of resetting the default minimum spacing, but I don't know how to do this. If someone would lead me by the hand on this, I would be grateful.

Well, nobody responded, but the answer i received from from another forum is to hold down the ALT key while dragging the tab. The ruler temporarily disappears while dragging, but it allows for a precise positioning of the tab.
