Unhappy MS Office '10 - Word / Table of Contents

Having an issue where scrolling down the auto-generated ToC in a document causes word to crash - all and any instances of word that are open.

Has anyone seen this? Any idea what causes it? It seems random.

Does this happen for any document with a TOC, or does it affect a particular document only?

Any document with a ToC. Unfortunately the application hangs, rather than crashing, so there's no memory dump or anything - just a swirling blue cursor of death on the screen, and the application window goes "white".

Has anyone *any* idea what may be causing this?

It's definitely not a common issue. Does it happen if you start Word in Safe mode?

To start in Safe mode: Hold the Windows logo key as you press R; in the Run dialog box, type winword /safe and press Enter (note the space before the slash).

Tried this on 2 computers, both worked OK without crashing on the toc in *any* of the documents with ToC's.

Does this point to an issue with the document(s) being corrupt, or is there something core to Word that might be causing it?

The fact that Safe mode works suggests three possible causes: corrupt registry keys, poorly designed code in Normal.dotm, or poorly designed code in an add-in. For further testing on this, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921541/en-us/ (How to troubleshoot problems that occur when you start or use Word 2010, Word 2007, Word 2003, or Word 2002).
