Are the text boxes linked to one another? Normally this shouldn't affect the formatting of the text box but it's an option to look at.

I'm not sure if it's the same procedure in 2010 but in 2007 to unbreak linked text boxes:

1) Select the first text box;


2) On the Format tab, in the Text Group (on the left side of the ribbon), click the break link button.
