Basically, that is the way. If you define a Paragraph Style with those attribtes, it will be easier to apply.

The alternative is to change the table wrapping to 'around', which makes each table a floating object on the page. Aside from allowing the tables to be positioned independently of each other and the text, it will keep them from merging. Can be a pain to maintain the positioning of, though, if you're still editing the document's contents before the table concerned.
